The Champagne

The 3 main components which make the uniqueness of “terroir champenois” are the climate, soil and basement and the relief creating of specific harmony.

The 2 big particularities of the soil are : it must be in the northen limit of the culture of the wine and to benefit from the influence of a double climate, oceanic and continental. Therefore, we can speak about micro-climate.

A soil and basement mainly consisted of chalk give to the champagne its minerality, which is so particular.
The strong porosity of the chalk in fact, a real hydric reservoir.

The relief is hilly and steep enough to allow a good period of sunshine and facilitate the flow of water.
